This occurs when the Supraspinatus muscle is pinched between the roof of the shoulder-blade and the head of the upper-arm’s bone. A pinching pain will be experienced when the arm is raised up, as this movement furthers narrow the (subacromial) space for the Supraspinatusmuscle.
Solution
An easy, immediate and convenient way to take away the pain, is simply to extend your shoulder forward. By doing so, your upper-arm’s bone moves away from the shoulder, leaving more room for the Supraspinatus muscle. Keeping your shoulder forward, you should be able to raise your arm up and down without experiencing any pain, or at least reduction in pain.
A good equipment to purchase is a Vertical Mouse. Compared to a normal computer mouse which is used horizontally, a Vertical Mouse allows your hand and elbow to be kept in a more neutral position, as well as promotes relaxation in the shoulder. With the arm more down and relaxed, the likelihood for the Supraspinatus muscle to be pinched is reduced.
