After a day of vigorous typing and using the mouse at work, you may feel some aches or pain in the shoulder area. Or even worse, some might feel a sharp pinching sensation. This is usually due to poor shoulder joint movement biomechanics. One way to relieve shoulder pain is to develop scapula (shoulder blade) stability, so that the arms can move about the shoulder joint with good biomechanics.
A muscle that’s often neglected, even for people who exercise regularly, is the Serratus Anterior muscle. This muscle is crucial for scapula stability, as it secures the scapula onto your back.
It is rather easy to spot people with weak Serratus Anterior muscle. Just look out for protruding shoulder blades.
Another method to see if you have weak Serratus Anterior muscle, is to do Push-Ups. Do a few push-ups on the floor, and get a friend to observe if your shoulder blade pops out during the process.
An effective and convenient way to activate and develop the Serratus Anterior muscle, is the Push-Up Plus exercise. Simply get into a normal push-up position, and merely inch your shoulder upwards repeatedly. You should feel the muscle at the side of your body below your arm-pit getting tired. That’s your Serratus Anterior muscle working!
Wishing you balance in work and health,
